Graduate Highlight - Blair Gray

For many of us, the very thought of going to the doctor's office could cause anxiety. Worrying about the potential cost, wait time, or test results may prevent you from going altogether. When Blair Gray found that the opposite was true for her, she knew she had discovered her new career path.

“My inspiration to join the medical field came from an odd sense of comfort when in a medical facility,” says Ms. Gray. “I have always felt peace at the doctor’s office or in a hospital, and it is my wish to help the patients I come in contact with be filled with the same sense of peace.” As a result, she enrolled in Stautzenberger College's medical assistant program.

The Maumee campus instructors were inspirations to her as she progressed through the courses. “All of my instructors while at Stautzenberger were amazing,” Ms. Gray recalls. “However, the way Mrs. Nicole Riga’s face would light up when she would share memories of how she helped her patients throughout her years as a nurse inspired me to share the same connection with mine. And a huge thank you to Mrs. Donna Lesley, who helped me see that we are more than 'just medical assistants.' Mrs. Donna helped me realize how important and vital I would be to the success of the doctor and their practice.”

Ms. Gray enjoyed the work, but she did find that studying and working simultaneously could be difficult. “In addition to attending classes, I worked seven days a week to be able to keep up with bills and life expenses,” she says. “Somewhere in between, I’d try to find time to finish homework. Lack of money and sleep were like carrying two monkeys on your back at all times, but the drive to finish with a degree that would change that is what kept me going.” However, all of that effort paid off when she graduated in July of 2018, ready to start her dream career.
