Graduate Highlight - Jessica Avery
On May 17, 2019

Mother's Day may be behind us, but every day is a great opportunity to appreciate those who put their children first. For some mothers, pursuing a degree and new career is a meaningful way to support their families. That is why Jessica Avery chose Stautzenberger College.

Ms. Avery selected the veterinary technician program because entering this career field had been a lifelong dream. “I have always been drawn to a career in animal care,” she says. At Maumee Campus, she met instructors who always kept her motivated. “Dr. Cole inspired me to work hard and keep pushing towards graduation. She is kind and knowledgeable. I look to her for inspiration for the kind of person I want to be in the field of animal medicine,” Ms. Avery says.

Being a parent created an additional challenge to her education, but Ms. Avery believed the end result would be worth the work. “I started my program when I was pregnant. In between classes, I would nurse my daughter,” she recalls. However, she was able to breeze through her studies and complete her externship at West Suburban Animal Hospital. She graduated from our program in December of 2017 and is currently employed by Toledo Area Humane Society. “Stautzenberger gave me the skills to pursue a career in animal medicine,” says Ms. Avery.

We hope Ms. Avery's story inspired you.
