Maumee Meet Our Instructor: Dr. Nick Sattelmaier
On February 23, 2021

Whether you're volunteering, working with large animals, or helping at a small practice, you're just happy to be helping animals. Dr. Nick Sattelmaier feels the same way. As Maumee Campus's veterinary technology program chair, he has had a variety of work experiences that he draws upon when teaching.

Nick grew up in the Cleveland area and received his undergraduate degree from John Carroll University in 2003. While attending college, he worked in a small animal emergency clinic as a veterinary assistant. Nick also volunteered with a large animal veterinarian as he completed his application for veterinary college. He then attended The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2009. After graduation, he completed a rotating small animal internship in medicine and surgery at Bay Area Veterinary Specialists in San Leandro, California.

After Nick completed his internship, it was time to move to the Toledo area. For three years, he worked at Animal Emergency of Toledo. Nick spent the next five years at two other local small animal practices. Along the way, Nick discovered he had a passion for teaching others. In 2018, he joined the Stautzenberger College family as an instructor to live out this dream. The following year, Nick became the veterinary technology program chair. This has allowed him to have an enormous impact on student success and the local veterinary community.

Since our instructors have worked in their field for years, their teachings incorporate real-life examples, making it easier to apply your new knowledge in the real-world setting.   Whether you are interested in the Veterinary Technician Associate Degree Program or one of the many other programs offered at our College, please contact us today.
