Brecksville Meet Our Instructor - Dr. Renato Agustin
On March 16, 2021

In 2015, Dr. Renato Agustin became the program chair of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Brecksville Campus. However, his experience in both the sonography and education fields goes much farther back. Renato has not only worked in and taught students about diagnostic medical sonography but also developed and accredited many sonography programs.

In 1977, Renato graduated from the University of Santo Tomas College of Science and Medicine in Manila, Philippines with a medical degree. He underwent clinical training in sonography at St. Joseph Medical Center in Warren, Ohio and St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Renato would go on to have an extensive career in sonography.

In 2004, Renato helped establish the required proficiencies for the initial ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) primary sonography credentialing examination in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is also a contributor to and participant in the Sonography Standard-Setting Committee of the ARRT. Prior to this, Renato was the program chair of the diagnostic medical sonography program at Sanford Brown College from 1998 to 2015. He created the DMS curriculum and submitted the self-study for programmatic accreditation to CAAHEP (the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs). From 2006 to 2008, he provided physics and emergency ultrasound training to physician residents in radiology at South Pointe Hospital of the Cleveland Clinic Health System.

In total, Renato has 20 years of experience in private, post-secondary education. He has worked with major accrediting bodies in the for-profit education sector (namely, ACICS and ABHES), serving as a program evaluator and site visiting team member for institutional accreditation. Renato also participated in multiple site team visits for the initial and continuing programmatic accreditations of diagnostic medical sonography programs by the JRC-DMS under CAAHEP. Today, he is proud to be part of the Stautzenberger College family, preparing students for their future careers.
