The program includes a blend of academic and clinical classes to help you understand the art and science of sonography. You’ll study anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of scanned organs, and learn the appropriate scanning protocols. The externship component includes a progressive supervised training experience in a clinical environment.

This comprehensive program also includes course work in general education to meet the requirements of an associate degree.

Also known as ultrasound technicians, diagnostic medical sonographers operate special imaging equipment to create images or conduct tests. People are most familiar with the ultrasound procedure that produces images of an unborn baby. Sonograms are also useful in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions of the abdomen, breasts, heart and blood vessels and, more recently, in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal problems.

Demand for diagnostic medical sonographers is expected to grow by 14% with 27,500 new job openings through 2024.1
